I suppose I'll be the first to bring up Mu, since that's probably the most notable lost land said to be in the pacific.

From what i understood, they found large deposits of material that is different from the surrounding material. Which should not have the properties it is displaying.

Since seismic waves travel trough it faster than tough the surroundings its probably not a structure with air gaps since in that case seismic waves should travel slower.

Might as well be leftovers from one of the previous cataclysm events. Since its 1000km deep might be not the Noahs flood but the Adam and Eve one.

This story will disappear now, they found a prison for a minor demon sealed away long ago.  We may get a report of misfortune befalling the discovery team but I'd be surprised.
